Some years ago, I received a very smart looking envelope through the post. On the back of the envelope was a gold embossed crest. I knew that this contained something special. I very carefully slit open the envelope and inside was a white card, again embossed with the golden crest. It was an invitation.
The Queen of England was inviting me to have an audience with her, at Buckingham Palace.
At the bottom of the card were the letters R.S.V.P.
This was an invitation that needed a response. My response was “yes”.
When the day arrived, I didn’t go as I was. I had a bath, took attention over my hair and make-up, selected a special outfit and wore what was, I now concede, a very peculiar hat.
Before going into the royal presence, I was briefed on how to behave and speak. Whilst I consider myself a reasonably, socially-adept person, these instructions were very different from how I would normally interact.
The Queen was very gracious and overlooked any faux pas I may have made in my nervousness. The things discussed remain between Her Majesty and myself, but I treasure that conversation.
I left the palace in no doubt that I had been in the presence of royalty.
JESUS, the King of all Kings, through His inspired Word, extends an invitation to each one of us to come into His Presence and spend time with Him. In fact, He invites us to not only visit, but to reside, in His Royal Household for all eternity.
But he doesn’t just take it for granted . He asks us to R.S.V.P.
What will your response be to King JESUS?
Will you accept His invitation?
It will mean cleaning your life up and putting on the robes of righteousness.
It may involve you learning a whole new language. A new way of doing things.
But JESUS will understand if you make mistakes and He will be gracious to you.
If you take time to be with Him, He will open up His heart to you and reveal wonderful things. Things that you will treasure for ever.
And you will NEVER have any doubt that you are in the awesome, presence of King JESUS.
