For you preachers out there, this pie can also be used as a visual aid to illustrate the Holy Trinity – one pie; three layers. It is easy to make whilst a service is going on, in a portable oven, planning the rest of the worship around the cooking time. A Pyrex dish makes it easier to show off the three distinct layers. Having smelled the aroma and seen the result, sadly, health and safety regulations no longer allow you to distribute the pie that you have made to the people. So have extra, hygienically-made portions ready to pass out with the invitation to ‘Taste and See that the Lord is good’ – or hand out the recipe as people leave church.
This pie is a reminder to us, that, no matter how muddled and messy we feel that our lives might be, if we will allow JESUS to work within us, He can create something beautiful, ordered and good out of each one of us. Sometimes we have to allow ourselves to be agitated and disturbed by Him and sometimes we have to allow Him to place us in the heat. But remember that He is always there with us, leading us gently through to His purposes for our lives. JESUS understands our confusions, our hurts and our hang-ups and there is NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING, that is impossible for Him to deal with.
The science behind it is that the heavier ingredients sink to the bottom, the less weighty ones stay in the middle and the light ones float to the top, arranging themselves in molecular structure size in response to the heat!
