About this blog.

Hello,
when I feel the need to take a break from the routines of life, one of the things that I most like to do is to take a solitary walk down a quiet, country lane that I know well, listening to the bird song and taking in the scenery. Often, when I set off, I don’t know how far my journey is going to take me and I am happy to meander, guided only by the stiles, hawthorn hedges and stone-walls. It is an ever-changing panorama, evolving as the seasons unfold with new colours, life-cycles and sensory stimulations. I am surprised and delighted by the unexpected treasures that I discover along the way and return energised and re-invigorated for my daily tasks.
This blog is a writing equivalent of that country walk . Where boots step down muddy tracks, the printed word traverses the blank page in front of me. Some of the things I choose to write about are familiar routes . I am a Yorkshire lass – more specifically, a Ryedale moorlander with the distinct, pitch-ascending dialect known only in those few miles of God’s own county. I have a family that I adore. I enjoy a number of different art forms. So, there are the inevitable pen-pictures of all of those. I hope there’ll be a few, unexpected things that take my writing by surprise, too; that cause me to catch my breath and wonder at the destination. When there isn’t time to write much, I may just add an interesting picture or ‘oddity’ into the mix, to keep the momentum going.
Like my walks, my writing is solitary. It motivates and energises me and I don’t have an audience in mind when I come to this blog. As with any fellow rambler, I will greet you politely and welcome any comments you may wish to make, but please don’t expect this to be an expedition of great literary worth. I don’t wear my Sunday glad-rags for impulsive, lone trampings through the undergrowth and I don’t polish up hastily written jottings that are intended to be a spur, not a trap.
Whilst I would never claim to have any talent at either writing or photography, each plodding word and blurry image is my property, unless otherwise stated. I always give credit where it is due and, respectfully, ask that you do the same.
Best wishes,
Elizabeth.
